The late, great, Haaretz

by Omar Shtewi

Haaretz continues its slide into the gutter of the Israeli right with what could be the absolute worst example of journalism.

Apparently

Libya needs any help it can get from the international community, including from Israel, a spokesman for the opposition to Muammar Gadhafi’s regime told Haaretz Wednesday by phone from London.

When asked what sort of assistance Libya required, Ahmad Shabani, the founder of Libya’s Democratic Party, said: “We are asking Israel to use its influence in the international community to end the tyrannical regime of Gadhafi and his family.”

This Uncle Tom clearly missed the part where the Libyans laid down their own lives for their freedom and ousted Gaddafi with their own blood.  Quite what help the colonial State of Israel, that great throw-back to the 19th Century could provide, is beyond me.

Haaretz does concede though, that

The weight he carries in Libya’s emerging political fabric is unclear. But in recent months Shabani has appeared in the Western media as a spokesman for the opposition.

Let’s hope that this is the extent of his involvement.

This ‘rebel spokesman’ is an exiled Libyan pining for the days of the Kingdom – which was, pleased be advised, NOT democratic either.

Clearly he is trying to slide his way in to the new, free, Libya.  If he thinks he can do that by appealing to the colonial hate-mongers of Israel, he is sadly mistaken.

I have every faith that the people of Libya and the Transitional National Council, will dissociate themselves from these cloying and undignified remarks.

Libya needs Israel FOR NOTHING.  Israel is a state which oppresses Arabs as part of their national culture.  For this man to claim to speak for Libya while appealing to the heroes of the Gaza Massacre is disgusting.
